Membership includes both regular and associate members. Regular membership may be granted upon application to:

1. university members holding a doctorate who demonstrate a substantiated research interest in the field of Romanticism studies
2. doctoral candidates who conduct research on the Center’s focus area and are enrolled as doctoral students at FSU

Associate membership may be granted upon application to any doctoral or postdoctoral scholar who demonstrates a substantiated research interest in the field of Romanticism studies. Membership must in all cases be applied for in writing. A General Assembly is convened at least once a year.
The Directorate consists of six members. Its composition should reflect the disciplinary breadth of the Center. The Directorate is responsible for the scholarly work of the Center and elects a spokesperson from among its members. It is accountable to the General Assembly and presents the activities in an annual report.

The Center’s work is supported by a scientific management team, which develops and implements suggestions for the Center’s activities and research program, disseminates its research output, and ensures connections to other institutions. The Administrative Office is led by a scientific coordinator together with the head of Schilles Gartenhaus/Goethe-Laboratorium.

The Center is accompanied by an Advisory Board composed of three to seven internationally renowned figures from academia and public life, appointed for three years.
