Olivia Garro studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti (Firenze) and at the Warburg Institute before gaining her doctorate at the Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities (Coventry University). She has been a fellow of the British Council at the Venice Biennale and of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. Her research focuses on representations of witchcraft and the entanglements between religious belief and visual culture. Her next project investigates visualisations of witchcraft during and after the Enlightenment and the ‘disenchantment of Europe’, to explore issues such as the agency, pictoriality and temporality of artworks. In Jena, she will delve into the Romantic artists’ fascination with the occult and particularly on a series of works by Bonaventura Genelli.
